A few weeks ago, we went to one of my absolute favorite restaurants in the area, Le Diplomate. It’d been a few years since we’d been, and I thought it’d be the perfect spot for a little family Valentine brunch. As to be expected, with two kids in tow it was a little more challenging getting to and from than I’d remembered. Even so, the trek into town was still well worth it! Below I’m sharing why I consider Le Diplomate the best French restaurant/bistro in DC and why I think you’ll love it too. Bon Appetit!

It’s the Quintessential Parisian Bistro
Given my background in interior design, I love a place with great atmosphere. When you arrive at Le Diplomate, the second you step through the door; you’ll instantly feel as if you’ve stepped into an authentic Parisian bistro right in the heart of Paris. Whoever designed the restaurant really knows Paris well! It’s a wonderful atmosphere.
The Menu is Fantastic
Since Le Diplomate opened many years ago, I’ve been many times. Without fail, the food is always fantastic. I’ve gone for brunch/lunch and dinner; both menus are so good and there’s great variety. They do all the classic Parisian dishes.
It’s An Experience
Between the decor and the food, it’s not just any typical dinner out. It’s truly an experience and that’s why I love it so much. When we go, we typically do all the courses from drinks to apps to the main meal to dessert.
Recommendations
Book in advance! Plan to book at least 4 weeks out to be sure you’ll be able to get a table when you’d like to go.
When it comes to menu recommendations, I really don’t think you can go wrong, but I will say that the steak frites and beef bourguignon are two of my absolute favorites. If you have room for dessert, the profiteroles are a top recommendation. Last but not least, they have really good cocktails, so I say, live it up and get a fun, fancy cocktail too!
Last note: If you plan on bringing little ones, I just have to mention – they have the cutest bistro stool highchairs (where can I get some of my own?), so they can take part in the Parisian experience too!
